Encouraging women to build a career in construction this International Women’s Day

Our Regional Development Director Georgina is encouraging women to build a career in construction this International Women’s Day

For International Women’s Day on Wednesday 8th March, we caught up with our Regional Development Director Georgina Wilkinson, to encourage women to consider a career in the housebuilding industry.

Georgina heads up the Southern Counties division and plays an integral role in our expansion into Essex, Kent, Hertfordshire and Suffolk. She has strong experience in land buying and a wealth of expertise, helping us to deliver our exciting growth plans.

Georgina said: “Attracting more women into the construction industry is hugely important. Engaging with students, graduates and other young professionals is key, as through education we can change opinions and challenge the perception that construction is a man’s world.”

In Q4 of 2022, 2,171,000 people in the UK worked in construction1. Out of those people, just 321,000, 14.7%, were women2.

Georgina continued: “As a woman in housebuilding I have had equal opportunity to progress my career, and I would love to see more women alongside me in senior roles. I love what I do, and in my day-to-day role I really enjoy being able to get heavily involved with construction and the progress of our sites.

“At Mulberry Homes I’m able to help create communities that both us and our customers can be proud of, and leave behind an incredible legacy which is something very special to housebuilding.”

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the achievements of women, promoting equality and raising awareness about discrimination.

This year, the theme is #EmbraceEquity, which is all about educating people on the difference between equality and equity, and highlighting why it’s so important.
