We’ve helped Warwickshire school children learn about hedgehogs

13th April 2022

We are thrilled to have treated year five pupils at Temple Herdewyke Primary School to a special talk on hedgehogs, and donated specially-made hedgehog highway signs.

The children, aged nine and 10, were visited by Senior Carer Sally Ellis, who volunteers for Warwickshire Hedgehog Rescue and comes from a nursing background. As part of the talk, Sally presented a series of photos and videos of the hedgehogs under her care.

Alongside arranging the talk, we also donated 30 hedgehog highway signs – one for each pupil. These signs are incorporated throughout our developments, and are carefully designed to provide hedgehogs with access routes to roam.

The talk and donation of hedgehog highway signs follow our contribution of £500 to the school last October, which helped to improve the school’s playground.

Mrs Greenwood, Teacher at Temple Herdewyke Primary School, said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to Mulberry Homes and Sally for giving this wonderful talk to our year five children, and for providing them with their very own hedgehog highways signs.

“The children had a fantastic time, and thoroughly enjoyed learning about how they can help hedgehogs themselves.”

Sally said: “It was lovely to see the children so engaged and interested as I gave my talk on hedgehogs. I have always had an enthusiasm for wildlife, particularly hedgehogs, so it was really great to be able to pass on some useful facts and tips about helping hedgehogs in our gardens to the younger generation.

“I hope that the children are able to put their hedgehog highway signs to good use in their own homes, and now know how to best support any vulnerable hedgehogs they find that need help.”

Kerry Jones, Sales and Marketing Director at Mulberry Homes, said: “We were delighted to organise this hedgehog talk for the pupils of Temple Herdewyke Primary School, and provide each of them with a hedgehog highway sign.

“We’re thrilled to hear the talk was a huge success, and that the children had such a wonderful time!

“Supporting local wildlife, particularly hedgehogs, is one of our core values at Mulberry Homes. We take a lot of pride in installing hedgehog highways and other beneficial features at our developments, and always jump at any opportunity to support local communities in their own efforts to aid animals in need.”

The school is nearby our The Templars development, located on Falkland Place and consisting of two, three and four-bedroom homes, where over 90% of properties have already sold. A brand-new release of homes will be launching in early summer 2022.
