When planning the perfect interior design for your space, the need to actually have space for all of the things you own can get in the way of your vision.
That’s why we at Mulberry Homes have put together our top tips on how to maximise your storage space, without the need to throw away all of your non-aesthetic possessions.
1. Show things off
Some of the things we use in our everyday lives also just happen to look great out on display. Incorporating functional items into the design of your home serves the dual purpose of freeing up cupboard and shelf space for the bulkier items and making your home more you.
This can mean displaying pots and pans from a hanging rack, keeping your nice tea set out on the kitchen side as a centre piece, or even mounting your bike on the wall to add character to the space.
2. Invest in storage items that are features of the room
Storage items can be a statement if you invest in pieces you like to look at. There are plenty of options for clever, space saving items that can be as stylish as they are functional, from storage stools that blend in with the living room seating, to stacking baskets that match the colour theme of the hallway. There is even the option to install a cupboard around a bathroom sink to create an elevated look whilst creating tons of new space.
3. Utilise the space underneath furniture
This tip can feel like cheating by hiding things away, but making use of the spaces underneath other items of furniture is an efficient and easy way make more space without adding more clutter. Some great options include beds with liftable mattresses or installed draws, tucking things neatly under sofas and masking it with a well-placed throw, or even creating draws out of stairs like some DIY experts have mastered.
4. Make use of dividers compartments
Drawer dividers and compartments are the quintessential storage solution for a reason. Simply inserting a divider into an existing storage space like a drawer or cupboard turns one segment into two or more, meaning there are both more spaces and more order to the area. They can be used in any area you need and are a quick and easy fix for many spaces.
5. Take advantage of your home’s quirks
Every home is unique and therefore comes with unique options to create storage solutions. Odd gaps can be filled with quirky shelves, a big corner stair can be home to an attractive drawer unit and sloping ceiling is a great opportunity for a fitted wardrobe that you can be proud to store your clothes in.
