Homebuilder supports book-finding adventure by funding 100 new books for Suffolk children
May 29th, 2025

Mulberry Homes, a luxury homebuilder building a new community in Badwell Ash, has donated £100 to a reading initiative ran by The Book Den, helping to encourage a love of stories amongst children.

Based in Bury St Edmunds, The Book Den is run by Lisa Crook, an Independent Usborne Partner, and provides book and reading related services to nurseries and primary and secondary schools.

To help children fall in love with reading, Lisa and her children have been hiding free books for local families to find during the school holidays. The books have been sponsored both by Lisa and local businesses.

Mulberry Homes’ donation is providing 100 new book packs for the community, which are being hidden in Bury St Edmunds and the surrounding villages for children to find and enjoy.

Lisa Crook said: “This initiative has two main purposes. Firstly, to promote a sense of fun and excitement around books – for children to find them, enjoy them in the moment or take them home. Secondly, I hope some of these books find their way to children who do not own a book at home. Sadly, the number of children without books at home is increasing every year, and I hope I can make a difference to as many families as possible.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to Mulberry Homes for supporting this initiative and recognising how important books are for children. It’s truly wonderful that Mulberry Homes has a generous charity scheme to support the community.”

Sophie Leathley, Senior Brand and Marketing Manager at Mulberry Homes, said: “As soon we found out about Lisa’s work, we immediately fell in love with her initiative of hiding books around the community and knew it was something we had to support.

“We are very proud to be donating £100 and providing 100 new books for children to discover. Encouraging a love of stories from a young age is incredibly important, and we hope that our contribution helps children to find a new passion for reading.”

The donation to The Book Den comes as part of the homebuilder’s Community Chest initiative, in which charities and public organisations local to Mulberry Homes’ developments are invited to apply to receive a one-off donation of up to £1,000.
