As part of our Distinctly Local campaign, we have donated £200 to The Moulton ’77 Brass Band, which has been struggling with its finances due to the cancellation of all performances since March.

The Moulton ’77 Brass Band is a brass band made up entirely of amateur players and is funded by engagement fees and member subscriptions. The band’s music ranges from traditional brass band marches to classical arrangements and contemporary pieces.

After losing its home at the local working men’s club, the band has struggled financially over recent years. It now has to pay £30 per rehearsal at the local village hall, and with only 15 members currently this has had a huge financial impact on the band.

Income for the band comes from membership subscriptions paid by the members and payments from local performances, such as village fetes and bandstand jobs, but all of which have been cancelled in the current climate.

The donation is part of our Distinctly Local campaign, which aims to support two local charities or organisations every month. The programme has continued to support local causes throughout the current pandemic, which has made a great difference to communities adapting to the ‘new normal’.

Kerry Jones, Sales Director for Mulberry Homes said, “A key element of our Distinctly Local campaign is the commitment to strengthening, and forging lasting partnerships with, the communities local to our developments, particularly in the midst of the current pandemic.

“It’s a pleasure to be able to make this donation towards Moulton ’77 Brass Band and we hope the funds will offer a helping hand, especially whilst they are unable to raise money from performing.”

Rachael Stoneham, Chairperson for Moulton ‘77 Brass Band added, “The support that we have received from Mulberry Homes has been greatly received and we are so thankful that they have been able to help us financially during this unsettling time.

“My vision for this year was to build the band back up to a full brass band, which should consist of at least 25 players and three percussionists, so we are currently quite a few players short. We’d also like to build a junior band to enable us to have players filtering up to the main band, but this is also something else we’ve had to put on hold in the current climate.

“Once the band rehearsals are back up and running, we hope also be able to purchase new music, which we look forward to sharing with Mulberry Homes.”
