Distinctly Local: How We’ve Made a Difference Within Communities Local to our Developments

As we zoom through 2020, we’ve taken the opportunity to take a breath and look back at our successful Distinctly Local campaign. Since launching it back in January, we’ve contributed over £5,600 to charities and businesses nearby to our developments.

Distinctly Local puts local communities at the heart of our operations. Each month we pledge £400 split between two different charities, as well as selecting two lucky customers to win £200 each in vouchers for local businesses in their community.

‘Distinctly Local – Strengthening and Connecting Communities’ is our commitment to sustainability, influencing how we select new development sites, designs and builds its homes and interacts with its customers, neighbours and local partners.

The initiative, which has been implemented at all our developments, has seen a selection of local businesses, public services, clubs, societies and charities chosen to receive practical and financial support in the form of collaborations or donations.

In a bid to support local business and raise the profile of independent retailers, we will be running monthly prize draws for our customers to be in with a chance of winning £200 worth of vouchers to spend with a handpicked selection of local companies.

In collaboration with The Mintridge Foundation, two students from Moulton School and Science College in Northamptonshire have participated in a fantastic five-week mentoring programme via Zoom with Northampton Saints full back George Furbank.

We have also provided a donation to Bedfordshire-based peer support group For Men to Talk, which has been able to develop virtual support services and deliver Zoom sessions with professional speakers to provide an opportunity for men to talk about mental health.

Other donations and collaborations include; Moulton ’77 Brass Band, Bicester Foodbank, Rett UK, Kilburn School of Dance and The Prostate Project.

Ian Sadler, Managing Director for Mulberry Homes, said: “A key element of our Distinctly Local campaign is our desire to forge lasting partnerships with communities local to our developments, particularly in the midst of the current pandemic.

“We’re thrilled to have made such a huge difference within our communities already and are looking forward to the future donations, collaborations and giveaways that we’ve had the pleasure of organising.
