We’re helping to care for hedgehogs this December

December 1

We are thrilled to be supporting multiple hedgehog rescue sanctuaries in Warwickshire as part of our 10-year anniversary campaign, in which we’re committed to donating to charities and organisations local to our developments throughout 2021.

This December, we are donating £500 each to Warwickshire Hedgehog Rescue and Barnacle Hedgehog Rescue.

Both charities are volunteer-ran and dedicated to nursing sick, injured and abandoned hedgehogs until they can be released back into the wild. Their aims are to rescue and rehabilitate as many hedgehogs in the county as possible, whilst raising awareness of how local people can help hedgehogs themselves.

Linda Clements of Warwickshire Hedgehog Rescue said: “Our aim during October and November is to ensure that our rescued hedgehogs are not only healthy but are also approaching a weight that will enable them to survive hibernation. December is the month when rescued hedgehogs may begin to hibernate. It is our final push to increase their weight before the deep cold of winter sets in. The storm before the calm, perhaps, because once our hedgehogs hibernate, we carers have a couple of months of relative quiet during which we are able to turn our attention to next year’s needs.

“As luck would have it, just when we needed it, Mulberry Homes has chosen us to be the recipients of their December £500 donation during their 10-year anniversary celebrations! It is a wonderful way to mark the end of a busy year. The timing is perfect, and we are thrilled to accept their kind gesture. We have already agreed a project for which the funds will be used. More on that at a later date…”

Debbie Boddington, Founder and Medical Leader at Barnacle Hedgehog Rescue, said: “Barnacle Hedgehog Rescue was overwhelmed with the generosity of Mulberry Homes. The amazing donation of £500 will go a long way to saving at least three hedgehogs by providing medical or other essentials needed.

“Covid has had a massive impact financially on our rescue due to not being able to do any fundraising, so this has come at a much needed time and we cannot thank Mulberry Homes enough for their kind generosity.”

Kerry Jones, Sales Director at Mulberry Homes, said: “We are very proud to be donating to two local hedgehog sanctuaries. Helping to protect and support the wildlife which live amongst where we operate is a huge part of our ethos at Mulberry Homes, and we couldn’t be happier to be helping these wonderful charities care for more of our prickly friends.”

Stay tuned to find out how Warwickshire Hedgehog Rescue and Barnacle Hedgehog Rescue will be using the funds in the coming months.
