Today we are celebrating Reptile Awareness Day!

21st October 2021

For Reptile Awareness Day, Thursday 21st October, we are helping to shine light on the importance of reptile welfare.

As part of our commitment to help improve ecology where we build our homes, we have introduced reptile hibernaculum facilities at two of our current developments – Launton Mews near Bicester, and Manor Heath in Leighton Buzzard.

In most ecosystems, reptiles help to maintain balance as they form a vital part of the food chain. In our gardens, reptiles can play the role of a pollinator, and they are also known to help reduce the number of agricultural pests.

During reptile hibernation season, which typically starts in October and can last up until March, reptiles often seek shelter in underground chambers called hibernacula for additional protection and warmth.

Sales Director at Mulberry Homes, Kerry Jones, said: “As a responsible housebuilder, it is one of our key missions to help protect local wildlife in the communities in which we build our homes.

“Now we are entering hibernation season for reptiles, it is an important time to provide a safer environment for these animals, to ensure they are comfortable during the colder months.

“We hope that with the ecological work we are carrying out across our developments, we can help to protect and attract more wildlife to the areas which surround our homes.”

As part of our Mulberry Way initiative, we have been implementing sustainable, ethical and community-centered practises at our developments, with a variety of initiatives in place to build a great sense of community in desirable environments.
