We’ve raised money for two Bedfordshire hedgehog sanctuaries with our highway signs campaign

We’re delighted to have donated more than £220 to two hedgehog sanctuaries in Bedfordshire, through our latest campaign to promote a more sustainable environment for hedgehogs.

In exchange for donations to local hedgehog sanctuaries at two of our Bedfordshire housing developments, we’ve provided charitable visitors with branded hedgehog highway signs and instruction cards on how to create their own hedgehog holes.

Hedgehog highways and holes link up gardens to provide these much-loved mammals with access to a greater range of food resources and shelter.

We hosted a collection at Maulden Ridge in Maulden for Hedgehugs Rescue and Rehabilitation, which is based in Sharnbrook and helps to rehabilitate abandoned hedgehogs across Bedfordshire.

We also held a collection at Manor Heath in Leighton Buzzard, for visitors to make donations to Wyboston-based Spiny Normans Hedgehog Support – a rescue which runs a ‘hogspital’ to help hedgehogs from all across the county.

Kate Callow, Owner of Hedgehugs Rescue and Rehabilitation, said: “Hedgehugs would like to thank Mulberry Homes for organising the collection and for spreading awareness of how people can make hedgehog highways for the local hedgehogs.

“The donation will go towards the special formula we need for hoglets and the medications needed for their treatment.”

Amanda Norman, Owner of Spiny Normans Hedgehog Support, said: “It’s wonderful that hedgehogs have highways in Mulberry Homes’ Bedfordshire developments – it’s great for the hedgehogs, and great for the homebuyers, as it encourages and allows people to experience and support hedgehogs moving forward. This is exactly what we need to see!

“We are very grateful to Mulberry Homes for the kind support they are showing towards hedgehogs and Spiny Norman’s Hedgehog Support.

“The donation, and future donations, will go towards the jobs that need doing for the continued care of the hedgehogs.”

Kerry Jones, Sales and Marketing Director at Mulberry Homes, said: “As a responsible housebuilder, we aim to improve ecology in the areas where we build our new homes, and we love to see others helping to create a sustainable environment.

“Hedgehog holes and signs have been installed across our two developments in Bedfordshire to help one of the country’s most adored animals roam from garden to garden freely.

“We hope the two sanctuaries – which are working hard to provide vital care to local hedgehogs – can benefit from our donations, and we hope our incentive has helped inspire people to create excellent hedgehog highways of their own!”
