We have installed a Greensand stone wall at the entrance of our brand-new Maulden Ridge development in Maulden, honouring the county’s heritage.

Located on Clophill Road, Maulden Ridge is a stunning collection of just 49 three, four and five-bedroom detached homes, where over 65% of the properties have already sold following the launch earlier this year.

Greensand is the local stone of Bedfordshire which runs throughout the Greensand Ridge, a band of higher ground stretching from Leighton Buzzard to Gamlingay. The Ridge rises out of the surrounding vales to create a locally unique environment, and sits amongst the Greensand Country, a beautiful and well-loved landscape which is home to all of Bedfordshire’s remaining heathland and more than half of its woodland.

Greensand stone was given its name due to it containing a green, iron-rich mineral that formed in shallow seas. Now, the sandstone consists of rich, brown tones and can also be seen in Maulden’s village church, St Mary’s Church, and many surrounding walls.

The Greensand stone wall at Maulden Ridge stands proud and was built by a skilled team, featuring rows of bricks at the base. Situated at the entrance of the development, the wall is curved and split across both sides of the road, welcoming in visitors and future-residents.

Mulberry Homes, said: “We’re delighted to have something so special and unique to Bedfordshire be a permanent feature of Maulden Ridge. The Greensand stone wall is a wonderful addition to the development and we hope that future residents appreciate it just as much as we do.

“The use of Greensand stone was including in our planning application, and came about through our sponsorship of the Greensand Country Landscape Partnership, who we are collaborating with throughout the year. The Partnership put us in touch with the right builders, and from there we created the beautiful entrance wall.

“At Mulberry we are very committed to Bedfordshire, providing local people with much-needed housing and supporting the community wherever we can. It’s important to us that we get involved with Bedfordshire by integrating its heritage and local history into our work, such as with the Greensand stone wall, allowing our developments to be uniquely personalised to the county.”

Maulden Ridge is the first Mulberry Homes’ development to include its Your Lifestyle Your Place initiative, with selected homes able to benefit from ‘garden rooms’; self-contained, outdoor working spaces or lifestyle rooms. Certain plots will also have their garages constructed with attic trusses to allow for potential future conversion.

The development will also benefit from electric car charging points in the visitor parking area and automated smart parcel delivery boxes as part of the developers’ industry-leading ‘The Mulberry Way’ initiative.

Maulden is a small village and civil parish, located just over a mile away from Ampthill and eight miles from the south of Bedford, with plenty of local amenities such as pubs and schools for all ages nearby.

The area is served by plenty of public transport options, offering easy access to the M1, A6 and A1. The nearby Flitwick train station provides a direct service to nearby Bedford and Luton, as well as London St Pancras and Brighton, making it perfect for commuters.

Maulden Ridge benefits from being close to Maulden Wood – a beautiful woodland situated near Clophill. Containing one of the largest, and most important, remnants of ancient woodland in Bedfordshire, there is an abundance of wildlife and spring flowers, and it can be explored on foot, on bike, or even on horse-back.

Maulden Ridge is open via appointment only. For more information and to book your appointment, call the sales team on 0333 121 1090 or visit https://mulberryhomes.co.uk/developments/maulden-ridge/overview/.

Mulberry Homes is supporting the Greensand Country and was the Key Festival Sponsor for the 2021 festival, which took place in May. The sponsorship came as part of the housebuilder’s 10-year anniversary campaign, in which it has committed to supporting charities and organisations local to its developments throughout 2021.
