Distinctly Local: How we’ve made a difference within communities local to our developments in 2020

We’re thrilled to announce that since commencing our #DistinctlyLocal campaign at the beginning of the year, we’ve contributed over £10,000 to charities and businesses nearby to our developments during the pandemic.

Distinctly Local, which concluded in October, put local communities at the heart of our operations. Each month, we donated at least £200 to two local charities or organisations, as well as selecting two lucky customers to win £200 each in vouchers for local businesses in their community.

The initiative was implemented at all our developments, and has seen a selection of local businesses, public services, clubs and charities chosen to receive practical and financial support in the form of collaborations or donations.

In a bid to support local businesses and raise the profile of independent retailers, especially during this uncertain time, we ran monthly prize draws for our customers to be in with a chance of winning £200 worth of vouchers to spend at a handpicked selection of local companies.

Caroline England, at Manor Farm Shop, nearby our Kingsbury Park development in Lutterworth, Leicestershire, said: “The Distinctly Local campaign from Mulberry Homes has been great since it first started; highlighting us and other local businesses to the community. We think it’s a great initiative for both residents already in the area and for those who are thinking of moving here.”

Jeni Neil, owner of Forget Me Not Café, local to our Meadow View Fields development in Moulton, Northamptonshire, commented: “It has been an extremely difficult time for us as a small business, and Mulberry Homes has been very supportive during lockdown by purchasing several gift vouchers and advertising our café around the town and community. Their support is very much appreciated.”

Sue Robinson at Ashley Farm Shop, nearby the Heathcote Grange development in Great Bowden, Leicestershire, added: “We’ve been greatly supported by the local community and other businesses during the pandemic, and we’ve really appreciated Mulberry Homes purchasing numerous gift vouchers and advertising our business to new customers, especially during these difficult circumstances.”

Luke Newman, founder of Bedfordshire peer support group For Men to Talk, said: “On behalf of the attendees of For Men to Talk, I cannot thank Mulberry Homes enough for the donation to our group. It has allowed us to extend our Zoom calls longer than 40 minutes per session and we have learnt so many different techniques on how to improve our mental health from the two-guest presenters, which were able to speak with the group thanks to Mulberry Homes.”

Kerry Jones, Sales Director at Mulberry Homes, said: “A key element of our Distinctly Local campaign has been to forge lasting partnerships with communities local to our developments, particularly in the midst of the current pandemic.

“We’ve been delighted to have been able to support a range of independent businesses throughout the year, especially at a time when many have been struggling financially. We thank them for all their collaborations with Mulberry Homes, and it’s been a pleasure introducing our customers to them.”

Following the success of our Distinctly Local initiative, we have an exciting new campaign which will be launching soon for 2021!
